Re: Top Single Episodes (Very Best of OTR) |
here's a few...
The Adventures of the Abbotts - -The Yellow Chip
A good entry in this detective series narrated by the wife of the hero, concerns nuclear espionage in Las Vegas.
Bob and Ray - -soap opera parodies
There is a set of these from the seventies, including Mary missing, the Meredith jinx, Noble Wife shanghaied, Noble wife adrift, etc. Each one runs about 5 minutes; these are parodies of the old time radio show, Mary Noble, Backstage Wife.
Bob Hope show, October 16 1953 episode, featuring Anne Baxter.
Bold Venture, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
The Six Crates of Apples episode.
The Goon Show, January 3, 1956 - -The Mighty Wurlitzer
Totally off the wall British comedy series starring Peter Sellers.
Candy Matson - - October 9,1950
The Ford Ord Story. Excellent entry in this detective series; our heroine is invited to a dance on a military base only to encounter murder!
Casey, Crime Photographer - - March 2, 1950 episode
The Bad Little Babe
CBS Radio Mystery Theater - -April 19, 1982 episode
Shelter - -a nuclear war has erupted and several people pile into a shelter, where tensions rise.
CBS Radio Workshop - -January 20, 1957
Fire at Malibu. This is one of those you-are-there experiences; one of several great documentaries from the series.
The Magnificent Montague - -November 10, 1950
Starring Role in Radio, the debut episode featuring the most pompous ass in the theater.

Re: Top Single Episodes (Very Best of OTR) |
Well, I can't vouch for the "Very Best episodes", but for starter:
Some episodes from
Amos 'n' Andy, for example:
- Tourist Sight Seeing Agency
- 1877 Nickel
- A Mean Valentine (the beginning is hilarious!)
Some episodes from
Inner Sanctum Mysteries, for example:
- The Wailing Wall
- Birdsong For A Murderer (it's a tricky one!)
One or two from
X Minus One, e.g.:
- Cold Equations
(These are sci-fi, so your friend may not like them, but "Cold Equations" it touchy.)
There are also many detective/crime programs, but according to my experience they are not very satisfying. I use them as (very, very effective!) sleeping pills (which your friend may need...)
BTW, I use the
Tiger browser extension to manage my favorite shows/movies here on Archive.Org. It lets you mark individual radio episodes. Very useful.
